Wailers Formed

The band formed when self-taught musician Hubert Winston McIntosh known as Peter Tosh met Neville Livingston known as Bunny Wailer and Robert Nesta Marley (Bob Marley) in 1963. By late 1963 Junior Braithwaite, Beverly Kelso, and Cherry Smith had joined the Wailers. After Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer left the band in 1974, Bob Marley began touring with new band members.

Rasta

Bob Marley was a member for some years of the Rastafari Movement whose culture was a key element in the development of reggae. Bob Marley became a passionate proponent of Rastafari, taking their music out of the socially deprived areas of Jamaica and onto the international music scene. He was interviewd once

Interviewer: "Can you tell the people what it means being a Rastafarian?"
Bob: "I would say to the people, Be still, and know that His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia is the Almighty. Now, the Bible seh so, Babylon newspaper seh so, and I and

I the children seh so. Yunno? So I don't see how much more reveal our people want. Wha' dem want? a white God, well God come black. True true."[

Personally I don't think he answered the question exactly, he seemed around the bush but not defining what it is to be a Rastafarian. What he did say was in Rastafarians believe a black God will come & that it is emperor of selassie of Ethiopa.

The Down Fall of A Legend

July 1977 Bob Marley found that he had a malignant melanoma under the toe nail. It was not primarily caused by a soccer injury, instead it was a symptom of the already existing cancer. His doctor advised him to amputate his toe but Bob refused to due to his religious beliefs. With this illness Bob still continued touring. The album "Uprising" (released May 1980) contained a song called "Redemption Song" which was his way of speaking of how he accepted the terms of his life which would lead to mere death. After the bands tour where his biggest concert was in Milan with 100,000 people the band went to America. He first performed at Madison Square Garden part of the Uprising tour. He then continued to the Stanely Theater that is now called the Benedum Center which is located in Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania. Little did people know that it would be his last performance.

Smile Jamaica

December 5,1976 at National Heroes Park in Kingston Jamaica Bob Marley performed 2 days after almost being killed and shot by a gunman. Even though this incident occurred he still went to perform one song Smile Jamaica but turned out to be a ninety minute performance. It wasn't just Bob Marley it was the band Bob Marley & The Wailers. They played the songs

-War -No More Trouble -Get Up Stand Up                      -Crazy Baldhead -Positive Vibration -Smile Jamaica -Rat Race 5. -TrenchTown Rock -Keep on Moving -Want More -Them Belly Full -Jah Live -Rastaman Chant -Rebel Music -So Jah Seh

The purpose of the concert was to bring the people together. There was tension between the socialist People's National Party and the right-wing Jamaican Labour Party.
